About The Position

FiberTel is seeking a Directional Drill Operator for our Reno, NV location. A Successful Directional Drill Operator is specially trained and has expertise in directional drill rigs and product support equipment. This individual will be primarily responsible for setup and completion of drilling variable-sized underground bore holes and pulling back required conduit/pipe. As a Directional Driller/Equipment Operator, you are responsible for running a variety of directional drilling equipment; including Directional Drill (Vermeer and/or Ditch Witch) Vac Truck, Mud Truck, Excavator, Forklift, Dump truck, Locator, along with others not listed.

Requirements

  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
  • Possess a valid driver's license or be eligible and willing to obtain the required license for the position.
  • A good driving record is required.
  • Basic knowledge of and ability to operate various types of utility trucks and equipment in a safe manner.
  • Basic knowledge of and ability to hand tools and equipment in a safe manner.
  • Class A Commercial Driver's License is a plus (Higher wage scales apply to CDL holders).
  • Ability to communicate effectively with customers, employees, etc.
  • Willing and able to work in all weather conditions.
  • Able to lift/carry 50 lbs regularly and up to 100 lbs as needed with or without assistance.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous construction experience, preferably in the telecommunications industry.
  • Knowledge of established Horizontal/Directional Drill Locator/ Operator procedures and techniques.
  • Ability to perform Horizontal/Directional Drill Locator/ Operator procedures and duties.
  • Ability to travel.

Responsibilities

  • All phases of telecommunication construction including but not limited to: Loading, driving, delivery, digging, removal and placement of various types, sizes and weights of construction materials and equipment.
  • Operate the directional drill.
  • Ensure safety of the public and other utilities underground facilities.
  • Assist in potholing and remediation.
  • Assist with setting hand holes and completing tie-ins.
  • Ability to read and comprehend utility locates.
  • Set equipment up including the drill, water tanks and grounding the machine.
  • Ability to properly formulate and mix drilling mud for the site conditions.
  • Ability to perform proper reaming and pull back methods for existing conditions.
  • Oversee laborers and/or crew members work and monitor time usage.
  • Ability to properly clean and maintain the equipment, check fluid levels, and conduct a visual inspection of vehicle/equipment to assure your vehicle/equipment is performing at optimum safety.
  • Perform the required pre-trip, post trip inspections and the required reports, perform needed maintenance including winterizing equipment.
  • Communicates with Supervisor daily to turn in required reports (i.e. Bore log, vehicle maintenance reports, crew time logs etc.).
  • Follows specifications for the job and company policies.
  • Complies with safety procedures on and off the project site.
  • Strive for optimal production while working safely and performing quality work.
