About The Position

The Directional Drill Operator is responsible for safely and accurately operating and monitoring directional drilling equipment in accordance with project plans, specifications, and safety regulations. This role involves maintaining equipment, ensuring site compliance, and coordinating with crew members, with safety being the top priority. The operator will work in central Indiana and surrounding areas in the Midwest, requiring travel during the week but typically being home on most weekends. The position also involves assisting the crew with other tasks, locating utilities, and potentially water and sewer installation and testing.

Requirements

Be willing to travel during the week when needed
Be in a local operators union or willingness to get into one
Solid understanding of trenching and excavation safety
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or two to three years’ experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
Experienced Horizontal Directional Drill Operator
Prior experience in underground utility work
Strong independent work ethic with ability to work within a team
Clear and concise communications
Strong sense of urgency, focusing on time

Nice To Haves

Operate HDD Locator a plus
Fusion experience and certification for HDPE a plus
Class A CDL or willingness to get one is a plus but not required

Responsibilities

Operate and monitor directional drilling equipment safely and accurately in accordance with project plans, specifications, and safety regulations
Maintain equipment
Ensure site compliance
Coordinate with crew members
Operate Horizontal Directional Drill Machines
Help with HDPE Fusion
Help crew when needed with other tasks
Help Locate Utilities and know and understand what you will be crossing
Perform Water and sewer installation and testing
Operate Excavators, Loaders, Skid Steer, Backhoe as needed
Perform General Maintenance on the directional drill
Perform other duties as requested by the supervisor
Perform other duties as requested by the Foreman
