About The Position
Journey Found Inc. is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Direct Support Specialist to join our team in Manchester, CT. This full-time position is designed for individuals who are interested in helping others and making a positive impact in the lives of those with Pervasive Developmental Disorders and Intellectual Disabilities. The Direct Support Specialist will work primarily in our group homes, providing essential support to individuals in their daily activities and helping them achieve their personal goals. The mission of Journey Found Inc. is to empower individuals to become all they are capable of being through behavioral, residential, and other support services. In this role, you will be responsible for assisting individuals with activities of daily living, which include getting dressed, cooking, cleaning, bathing, and toileting. You will also be tasked with transporting individuals to various appointments and community outings, organizing activities, and administering medications as needed. Documentation of program data is a critical part of the job, as is teaching and engaging individuals in meaningful routines and decision-making processes. You will also be responsible for grocery shopping and running errands, as well as de-escalating situations and managing behaviors when necessary. Collaboration with a collective team and professional communication with nurses, clinical staff, directors, and supervisors are essential components of this position.
