About The Position

Enables people with developmental disabilities to develop skills that contribute to a self-directed and independent life by providing instruction, guidance, and one-on-one assistance. Enables the people we serve to address and achieve specific goals. Responds to atypical/emergent circumstances, exercising good judgment for such events. Ensures safe and effective behavior management by recognizing and responding to verbal and nonverbal signs leading to behavioral escalation; implements behavior adjustment plans. Provides care and instruction to the people we serve by modeling, verbal coaching and hand-over-hand assistance. Provides support to the people we serve by aiding with personal hygiene, money management, social interaction, academics, self-discipline, recreation, community integration and other goals involving daily living. Maintains accurate documentation, enhances professional and technical knowledge by participating in Agency training, and contributes to team effort.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or its equivalent preferred
  • Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record and dependable transportation
  • Ability to work flexible hours
  • Ability and willingness to drive to the homes of people we serve throughout Cattaraugus County and surrounding areas
  • Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing
  • Ability to acquire, maintain and appropriately utilize CPI certification
  • Ability to accurately evaluate, access, and respond appropriately to atypical situations
  • Ability to demonstrate solid judgment and initiative
  • Ability to identify fluctuations in the needs of the people we serve and take appropriate action

Nice To Haves

  • At least one (1) year of experience working with people with developmental disabilities
  • Functional knowledge of community resources
