About The Position

Heritage Homes, Inc., a non-profit agency based in Holland, provides 24-hour support to men and women in 5 adult foster care (AFC) homes. The adults that we serve in our residential supportive services program have developmental or intellectual disabilities, and in some cases, physical disabilities. Our AFC programs maintain Michigan Specialized Certification, a process that helps ensure that our staff are well equipped to meet the highest level of care needs. In addition, our AFC programs are accredited by CARF, an internationally recognized rehabilitation industry accrediting body. We work with each individual on the things that make a difference in their well-being and ability to live comfortably in the community of their choice. The communities in which we currently have group homes include Allendale, Holland, Grand Haven, and Jenison. Heritage Homes is now hiring Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) for our Jenison location. Minimum Part Time Positions (approx. 8-16 hours/week): 3rd Shift (10PM-6AM) Must be able to work every other weekend. On-call variable shifts also available. Being a DSP is for people who want to impact the lives of others. The role of a DSP is about helping people learn how to do things for greater independence, assisting with activities of daily living, facilitating community inclusion, and building relationships. Some of the day-to-day tasks of a DSP include: Assisting with personal care, hygiene and medication administration (with training) Monitoring health and ensuring safety Supporting involvement in community and in-home activities Developing a rapport with residents, cultivating a safe and supportive relationship Assisting the residents in meeting any health, safety, community inclusion, occupational therapy, and behavior goals as identified in individual plans of service and OT/PT plans. Requirements

  • At least 18 years of age
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
  • Valid driver's license with a good driving record
  • Ability to successfully pass a criminal background check
  • Ability to successfully pass a pre-employment physical, drug screen, and TB test
  • Ability to be dependable in punctuality and attendance
  • Ability to work professionally and cooperatively with individuals, coworkers, family members, and others
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing and complete routine paperwork
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions in written and oral form
