Requirements

Valid High School Diploma/ High School Passing Certificate or GED OR College education
At least 18 years of age
Valid Adult driver’s license
Pushing/Pulling/Carrying up to 50 pounds.
Heavy Lifting/Transferring
Meet all pre-employment screening.
Must be able to pass a criminal background check and be eligible to work with developmentally disabled individuals and be determined to be not disqualified prior to working with individuals served.by the Dept of Human Services
The successful completion of training to dispense medications to consumers will be required if the assigned consumers require staff members to administer their medications.

Complete criminal background
Name checked in the registries. (OIG exclusions database, Child Abuse Registry, and Offenders Against Individuals with Developmental Disabilities)
Drug testing
Education verification and other credentialing based on position requirements.
Proof of employment history or references (if required)
Positions that require driving Proof of driver's license, driver's insurance, and vehicle, IF required for providing transportation for individuals.
Must be able to attend 5 day-in person training -8.30am - 4.30pm (Mandatory) Monday - Friday
Must be able to complete all background screening steps prior to training date.
You must have an Adult Full Auto License Issued by state of New Jersey.

Responsibilities

Provide education on human, legal, and civil rights.
Promote healthy living and prevent illness and accidents.
Increase awareness of self-advocacy and support individual choice and decision-making.
Accompany people to work, the movies, concerts, shopping, and other community outings.
Teach independent living skills.
Provide transportation to appointments.
Foster positive relationships within the community.
Promote decision-making about living, work, and social relationships.
Assist with personal care and bathing, help around the home (laundry, cleaning, and decorating)
Document the care you provide.
Understand diverse challenges of those living with disabilities and use effective advocacy strategies.
Connect people with resources to further explore opportunities in their career, education, volunteerism, etc.
Promote effective communication.
Assist in medication administration where state law allows.
Protect confidentiality.
