About The Position

Under the guidance of the Residential Services Manager, the Direct Support Professional (DSP) plays a critical role in empowering individuals to achieve their highest levels of independence and enhance their overall quality of life. DSPs provide compassionate assistance with activities of daily living, support the development of essential social skills, and implement medical and behavioral support plans tailored to the unique needs of each individual. Responsibilities include assisting with self-medication management, administering medical treatments, and facilitating meaningful community integration. Additionally, DSPs ensure that homes or apartments are clean, well-maintained, safe, and free of hazards. A core aspect of this role is fostering individual satisfaction by addressing needs with professionalism, care, and unwavering respect. Requirements

  • Ability to communicate effectively with individuals, team members, and supervisors (verbal and written).
  • Must possess social perceptiveness to assess and understand other's reactions and behaviors.
  • Ability to resolve multiple complex issues simultaneously while remaining calm in stressful situations.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with individuals with disabilities, their families, guardians, caregivers, state agencies, and with co-workers and supervisors in a professional manner.

  • Basic computer skills.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be 25 years of age or older.
  • Current CPI certification within 30 days of employment
  • Current CPR and First Aid Certification within 30 days of employment
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to meet insurance requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize appropriate methods for working with individuals with intellectual and or developmental disabilities.
  • Report suspected Abuse, Neglect, Exploitation, Isolation, and Abandonment (ANEIA) immediately as mandated by state law.
  • Assists individuals in maintaining a safe and healthy lifestyle and monitors general health, appearance, behavior, and activity levels or changes.
  • Documenting in individual's file and communicating changes to QIDP, director, family, caregivers, or physicians, if needed.
  • Monitor and maintain a clean, safe, and secure environment for individuals.
  • Support individuals in maintaining general good health by following all physician recommendations.
  • Once authorized and trained, assist individuals in administering or monitoring the medication process and provide proper documentation.
  • Ensure individuals are free from abuse, neglect, and exploitation and are treated with dignity and respect at all times.
  • Ensures implementation of Person Centered Plans and documents outcomes accurately and timely.
  • Provide training and assistance to individuals in healthy dietary choices.
  • Assist individuals in personal hygiene tasks as needed.
  • Plan and direct individuals in daily activities.
  • Assist individuals in performing housekeeping duties such as vacuuming, shopping, laundry, and mopping.
  • Complete all required paperwork and documentation to meet Opportunity Village's and DRC's requirements.
  • If authorized and required, individuals should be safely transported to and from community outings, work, and personal appointments, and vehicles must be maintained according to Opportunity Village's vehicle policies.
  • The performance of all job duties should be professional at all times and consistent with Opportunity Village's culture, mission, values, philosophy, policies, and procedures.
  • Attends all mandatory training and team member meetings as assigned.
  • Act as an advocate for individuals in all community interactions and experiences.
  • Maintains and adheres to ethics of confidentiality and HIPAA.
  • Provide support and solutions with individual's emotional needs.
  • Report any incidents, safety issues, and workplace injuries immediately.
  • Report suspected Abuse, Neglect, Exploitation, Isolation, and Abandonment (ANEIA) immediately as mandated by state law.
  • Adhere to Opportunity Village's established policies and procedures.
  • Some travel to a variety of locations in the Las Vegas area.
  • Must be able to meet all requirements of OV vehicle policies and travel: Between worksite locations Within the community
  • May be assigned other duties as needed
