Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; or completion of a state approved training program; or demonstrate skills and receive a passing score on a written competency test
  • Successful background check and required in-service trainings
  • At least 18 years old
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation with proof of insurance, inspection and registration
  • Ability to work safely and respectfully in clients’ homes and communities
  • Compassion, reliability, and a desire to make a positive impact

Responsibilities

  • Reading, understanding and following the client’s Individual Support Plan (ISP), and reporting back to the IDD Program Specialist
  • Supporting individuals with daily living skills such as cooking, cleaning, personal care (i.e. grooming, hygiene etc.), or transportation
  • Encouraging participation in social and community activities – shopping, social events etc.
  • Helping people achieve personal goals and celebrating progress
  • Promoting choice, independence, and self-advocacy
  • Accurately documenting care, activities, and progress
  • Communicating with team members to ensure consistent, quality support
