The Direct Support Professional (DSP) plays a vital role in promoting the health, safety, and well-being of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. You’ll support daily living activities, community engagement, and personal development, while advocating for individual choice and dignity. As a DSP within the Home and Community Department, you may provide person-centered support across a variety of settings, including individual homes, community-based programs, Community Participation Supports (CPS), and Managed Care Organization (MCO) services. In all roles, you will uphold our mission to empower and support individuals with disabilities and their families throughout every stage of life.

Requirements

  • No prior experience required – we provide all necessary training
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Must complete all Achieva-provided training within designated timeframes
  • Valid Pennsylvania driver’s license and reliable, insured vehicle (dependent on business needs)
  • Must pass background checks (Act 33 and Act 34 clearances)
  • Compassionate attitude and desire to help others

Responsibilities

  • Support skill-building for competitive, integrated employment
  • Facilitate community learning opportunities for self-determination and advocacy
  • Assist individuals in navigating transportation and the local community
  • Foster social connections and engagement in the community
  • Promote and advocate for a life of personal significance
  • Identify, document, and communicate concerns and successes
  • Support independence with money management
  • Transport and accompany individuals to appointments, events, and activities
  • Assist with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs): bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting, meal prep, and mobility
  • Assist with Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADLs): housekeeping, shopping, errands, medication reminders, and transportation
  • Complete documentation and notes on the same day services are delivered
  • Meet productivity and billing standards as established by the department
  • Perform additional duties as assigned
