The Direct Support Professional assists with daily living activities in a 24-hour/7 day residential facility. This role involves observing and monitoring individual's behavior, charting observations and incidents, and providing training in basic personal and social skills, simple academics, or work skills. Responsibilities also include assisting with meal preparation, encouraging group activities, providing transportation, and offering limited case management. The professional is expected to arrange for medical care, assist in developing individual service/treatment plans, provide personal care during incapacitation, counsel individuals on behavioral problems, and instruct on daily living skills. Other duties include participating in case reviews, performing housekeeping tasks, preparing meals, maintaining records of progress, and adhering to agency policies regarding medication administration, work schedules, and health and safety regulations.
