Being a Direct Support Professional (DSP) is about building trust and fostering independence for individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities (IDD). The DSP is responsible for providing individualized direct support to people receiving services from Pearl Buck Center, helping them achieve person-centered goals related to attendant care, community employment, day support activities, employment path, small group supported employment, and supported living, all while maintaining a safe and encouraging environment.
Responsibilities
- Provide individualized direct support to people with intellectual or developmental disabilities (IDD)
- Assist people who receive services from Pearl Buck Center to reach their person-centered goals for attendant care, community employment, day support activities, employment path, small group supported employment and supported living
- Maintain a safe and encouraging environment
- Provide disability related supports to a person with IDD to attend a community event
- Provide disability related supports to a person with IDD to be successful at work
- Provide disability related supports to a person with IDD to prepare a healthy meal
- Provide disability related supports to a person with IDD to complete their morning routine - brushing teeth, getting dressed
- Provide disability related supports to a person with IDD to learn a new skill that will help them meet one of their goals
- Provide disability related supports to a person with IDD to communicate with others
