About The Position

We are currently looking for Direct Support Professionals to oversee and support individuals in reaching their fullest potential by participating in community activities that promote growth and independence. -Cranston, RI 02920 About Us: Accesspoint RI is a nonprofit organization assisting individuals with developmental disabilities. Requirements

  • Be at least 18 years of age.
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
  • Access to and provision of an insured and inspected automobile on an ongoing basis.
  • Ability to complete CPR, NCI, Human Rights, Management and other required trainings
  • Capable of effective oral and written communication
  • Capable of reading and comprehending policies and instruction, and use varying degrees of independent judgment and discretion.
  • Ability to respond to emergency situations at all times.
  • Must be able to operate tools and equipment (agency van, phone, copy machine, overhead projector, computer). Must be able to lift up to 100lbs with two people and lift up to 50lbs independently. Physical demands are in excess of sedentary work as position frequently requires walking, standing, reaching, fingering, stooping, bending, pushing and pulling. Ability to carry out NCI techniques and holds.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure that individuals supported are treated with respect and dignity.
  • Knows and demonstrates the mission of AccessPoint RI.
  • Interacts in a polite, honest, positive and professional manner.
  • Works with all team members towards resolution.
  • Is solution oriented when problems arise that need to be solved with others who can assist.
  • Assists with the development of a warm and supportive environment which facilitates growth and learning.
  • Encourages and demonstrates respectful and harmonious relationships among housemates.
  • Is actively involved with persons supported in the planning and development of the Individual Support Plan (ISP).
  • Knows the content of each ISP and partners with persons supported to follow through on goals.
  • Supports people in activities of their own choosing at home and in the community; helps people discover new areas of interest.
  • Assists individuals to develop a positive self-image; encourage independence with adult daily living skills providing assistance whenever needed.
  • Reads the house communication log at the beginning of each shift.
  • Writes a clear, brief summary of the shift prior to the end of each shift.
  • Completes all required daily documentation as related to the ISP.
  • Is accountable for and properly documents the use of money.
  • Operates all vehicles defensively, utilizing seatbelts and obeying all traffic laws.
  • Reports any household, vehicle, maintenance or other safety issues immediately.
  • Knows the whereabouts of persons supported at all times.
  • Works with team members in keeping the home and vehicles clean at all times.
  • Follows program plans and implements behavior management programs for each person supported.
  • Informs the Manager/Service Coordinator of any concerns regarding significant changes in an individual’s behavior.
