In this role, you will have the amazing opportunity to support someone that: Is very detailed and organized living in the Berwyn Heights, MD area with their parents Regularly engages in various activities that they schedule themselves Is very articulate and can express their needs and wants to the staff Attends swimming lessons daily during the Summer Engages in other activities like hiking and taking daily walks in the neighborhood Would like to become more efficient at performing basic household chores like cleaning their room, making the bed, and preparing lunch

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED from an accredited educational institution
  • Able to communicate effectively with the individuals to whom services are provided
  • Should have experience working with people with intellectual disabilities or with other types of special needs populations
  • Have patience and positive coaching skills to assist AM with successfully reaching his goals
  • Enjoy being active and proactively partner with AM while engaging in activities, events and volunteer efforts of choice
  • Will be resourceful in researching community activities, volunteer efforts, and enjoy introducing new ideas

  • Someone who will take the initiative to present new ideas for community outings and activities
  • Suggest new activities that could help enhance a variety of skills
  • Someone who is patient because the person supported doesn’t deviate from their schedule easily and gets very anxious if changes are made
  • Must be punctual because the person supported likes to be on time for their activities and gets upset when staff run late
  • Must be willing to use their personal vehicle to transport the person supported to and from their activities
  • Will model appropriate social norms and behaviors for the person supported to teach them how to respect boundaries.

Responsibilities

  • Support individuals in achieving their personal goals and fulfilling their dreams by having a “person-centered” focus
  • Teach independent living and daily skills to the persons-served by identifying and meeting social, environmental, and health care needs such as daily grooming and personal care routines
  • Actively plans, coordinates, and participates with residents in social activities including frequent community outings
  • Instructs, supports and participates in performing household tasks with persons served such as cleaning, preparing meals, food shopping, etc
