About The Position

Advocates is seeking a caring person to provide one-on-one support (Mentor/DSP) for a man with a developmental disability. This is an exciting opportunity to make a positive impact on his life by becoming a Mentor! A Mentor provides 1:1 support/assistance so that he can participate in his life as independently as possible. This includes managing daily chores, attending community activities, and maintaining his safety. The ideal candidate is reliable, enthusiastic, playful, active, and enjoys helping people. Related experience working with individuals with disabilities is preferred but not required. Please respond with a resume or summary of experience. Goals include: • Safety awareness - assisting with navigating the community and providing physical guidance as needed • Independent living skills - assistance with making independent choices, and assisting with household tasks. Support individual in an InclusiveU classroom setting. • Recreational activities - going for walks, engaging in safe social distancing activities, and visiting places like the YMCA, parks, etc., that are of his interest. Candidates must possess a keen sense of attention to detail, especially when electronically logging each day's time, mileage, and service documentation. Internet access and a valid email address are required. Hours and days of work Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday (9:00am-3:30pm) Hours have some flexibility. Pay rate: $25 per hour. Possible opportunity to work as a 1:2 support mentor with individual and individual’s sibling, 2:1 payrate is $30.The hourlyThe hourly rate for indirect/training is $16 per hour.rate for indirect/training is $16 per hour. Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • Must have a valid email address.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and auto insurance if required for the job assigned.
  • Must demonstrate sound decision-making skills.

  • Must demonstrate patience and compassion.
  • Must have the ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, and have the ability to write correspondence.
  • Must have basic reasoning skills including the ability to analyze and problem solve.
  • Must be able to tolerate a moderate noise level in the work environment and must be able to handle distractions.
  • Ability to handle physical aspects of the job, including sitting, standing, using hands to reach, walk, push, or lift up to 50 pounds.

  • GED or High School Diploma preferred.

Nice To Haves
