About The Position

The Direct Support Professional (DSP) plays a vital and compassionate role in empowering individuals with developmental disabilities, complex medical needs, mental illness, and/or substance use disorders to achieve fulfilling lives. Requirements

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED
  • Experience: Must obtain and maintain active First Aid and CPR certification and must obtain crisis de-escalation or therapeutic intervention training when scheduled

Responsibilities

  • Direct Services: Staff provide direct services to residents by implementing the support plan created by the resident’s team (Direct Care Coordinator, Case Manager, Guardian, Day Program staff).
  • Program Planning: Staff may assist in the implementation of individual program plans by appropriately communicating with the DC/ADC and offering constructive feedback during staff meetings.
  • Documentation: Staff are responsible for documenting, participating in, and following through with all individual programming. Accurate documentation is essential for demonstrating progress toward each individual’s outcomes and needs.
  • Daily Progress: Staff gather and record information about resident progress on a daily basis. This is an important part of showing measurable outcomes for the individuals served.
  • Areas of Support: DSPs must be willing to participate in all aspects of their role. Staff provide training, counseling, and assistance to residents in the following areas: Personal hygiene and grooming, including incontinence support Care of clothing and personal belongings Understanding and exercising rights in the community Fulfilling responsibilities in the community Personal awareness Routine health care Appropriate socialization Community orientation Recreation and leisure activities Meal preparation and planning Dietary oversight Housekeeping and home maintenance Developing interpersonal relationships Emergency procedures Personal program participation Anger management Money management Caring for personal property Behavioral intervention Addressing medical needs
  • Resident Routines: Staff must follow through with each resident’s established routines.
  • Resident Rights: Staff must always ensure that resident rights are protected and observed.
  • Training and Meetings: All staff meetings and scheduled trainings are mandatory. Participation is required to maintain employment.
  • Environment: Staff must create and maintain a homelike, nurturing environment. This is the residents’ home, not the staff’s, and must be respected as such.
  • Health, Safety, and Welfare: Staff are responsible for protecting the health, safety, and overall well-being of each resident.
  • Policies and Procedures: Staff must follow all policies and procedures as outlined in training.
  • Reporting Structure: Staff are responsible to report to the Designated or Assistant Designated Coordinator. Concerns regarding individuals or staff should be brought to the DC respectfully.
  • Physical Environment: Staff are accountable for maintaining a clean, safe, and orderly home environment.
  • Household Chores: Staff must follow any assigned chore list to assist in keeping the home clean.
  • Teamwork and Professionalism: Staff are expected to work together as a team. This is a place of employment, and all individuals must be treated with respect and professionalism.
  • Attendance and Punctuality: Scheduling is based primarily on the needs of the homes and residents. While Eagles Wing makes efforts to accommodate staff schedules, the needs of the residents come first.
  • Confidentiality: Each home is a confidential environment. Matters concerning residents or employees must not be shared outside the home. Questions or concerns should be directed only to the DC of the home.
  • Other: Perform other duties as assigned.
