About The Position
The Direct Support Professional (DSP) position at the Center for Family Support (CFS) is a vital role dedicated to providing support and assistance to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. CFS has been a trusted provider of services in New Jersey for over twenty years, operating nineteen group homes, one support apartment, and three day programs across the state. The mission of CFS is to enhance the quality of life for individuals with disabilities through person-centered care and support. The DSP will be responsible for helping individuals develop independent living skills, administering medications, and promoting opportunities for choice and participation in recreational activities. This role requires a compassionate and dependable individual who is committed to helping those with disabilities lead fulfilling lives. In this position, the DSP will engage with individuals to understand their dreams and aspirations, helping them acquire the skills necessary to achieve their personal goals. The DSP will facilitate activities that align with the interests and abilities of the individuals they support, fostering positive relationships within the community. A key aspect of the role is to respect the rights of individuals and empower them to advocate for themselves. The DSP will utilize a person-centered approach throughout their interactions, ensuring that each moment is an opportunity for teaching and growth. The DSP will also be responsible for protecting the health and safety of the individuals they support, which may involve administering medications, attending medical appointments, and responding to emergencies. Collaboration with team members in developing and implementing service plans is essential, as is maintaining accurate records and following agency policies and procedures. The DSP will participate in ongoing training and meetings to enhance their skills and knowledge in providing quality care.
