The position is for a part-time role at Astoria Manor, located in Astoria, NY. The schedule is Monday through Friday from 8 am to 2 pm. The primary responsibility is to assist individuals in maximizing their strengths, interests, and abilities while providing emotional support and building positive relationships. The role involves supporting individuals to meet personal goals that enhance their quality of life, ensuring health and safety, and maintaining a clean and organized therapeutic environment.

  • Responsible for the overall supervision, protection, and care of individuals.
  • Ensures health, wellness, and safety by providing appropriate supervision.
  • Provides support in various settings according to individualized service plans.
  • Maintains a clean, safe, and organized therapeutic environment.
  • Assists with personal care and activities of daily living (ADLs).
  • Ensures medication is administered as prescribed.
  • Facilitates ethical decision making and supports person-centered advocacy.
  • Transports and escorts individuals on recreational activities and appointments.
  • Collects, records, and summarizes data on individuals' observable behavior.
  • Completes and maintains all necessary trainings and certifications.
  • Utilizes approved training techniques to respond to challenging behavior.
  • Provides coverage for other direct support staff as requested.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Ability to meet essential physical demands of the position.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Enthusiasm for working with people with intellectual/developmental disabilities.
  • Basic computer skills including email and related systems.
  • Must hold or obtain and maintain SCIP-R certification within one year.
  • Must hold or obtain and maintain additional required certifications within one year.
  • Ability to develop and maintain professional relationships.
  • Ability to remain calm in stressful situations.
  • Must hold or obtain a valid Driver's License and Van certification if required.
  • HS diploma or its educational equivalent.
  • Work or life experience supporting people with intellectual/developmental disabilities.
  • Compensation of $18.00/hour to $18.79/hour.
