About The Position

Are you a compassionate, patient, and dedicated professional with experience supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities? Do you have a background in caregiving—such as a CNA, CNS, or PCA—and experience assisting individuals who exhibit maladaptive or challenging behaviors? Southeastern Virginia Training Center (SEVTC) is looking for kind, reliable, and mission-driven individuals to join our team as Direct Support Professionals (DSPs). In this PRN, wage-based role, you’ll provide essential care and support to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, including those who exhibit maladaptive behaviors.

Requirements

Strong verbal and written communication skills
Must be dependable, accountable, and reliable
Must have ability to work a flexible schedule
Must have ability to work with an integrated team.
Must have a high school diploma or equivalent
Must have active, valid driver’s license.

Nice To Haves

Prior experience working with individuals with intellectual disabilities, autism, and other disabilities
Prior experience working with medically fragile individuals.
Prior experience as a Direct Support Professional, a Certified Nursing Assistant, or similar role.
Demonstrated experience working with electronic medical records.

Responsibilities

Assist individuals with daily living activities such as hygiene, nutrition, mobility, and communication.
Provide emotional and behavioral support to individuals with maladaptive behaviors.
Implement behavior intervention plans as developed by the interdisciplinary team.
Promote independence and self-determination in a safe and structured environment.
Collaborate with clinical, nursing, and support staff to deliver comprehensive care.
Maintain accurate documentation and follow established safety procedures.
