About The Position

Here at ABiLITY, becoming a Direct Support Professional (LO-DSP) in our Life Ops Day Program allows you to be part of a team in a fun, long-lasting, and rewarding career—they act as a connection between people with developmental disabilities and their communities. LO-DSPs work alongside people and support them in: becoming integrated and involved in their world, being valued for who they are, gaining independence, and following their dreams. We enhance lives here. While working in a supported day program setting in Union, MO, our DSPs also assist individuals with their activities of daily living (ADLs). These include skills that are necessary to meet basic physical needs; personal hygiene, grooming, dressing, toileting, ambulating, and eating. These also include some more complex activities like managing finances, medication management, housekeeping, and physical and mental exercise. The LO-DSP works within the individual’s ISP plans to assist them in achieving goals and outcomes.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age at the time of application
  • Experience working with individuals with developmental, cognitive, or intellectual disabilities and Individual Service Plans (ISPs) is preferred.
  • Must have a high school diploma, GED, or be enrolled in a general equivalency program at time of application
  • Valid driver's license
  • Valid state minimum auto insurance
  • Willing to operate an agency vehicle
  • Class E Chauffeur License
  • Level One Medication Aide (L1MA)
  • First Aid/CPR/AED
  • Crisis Prevention
  • Completion of the online Relias DSP Training Program during normal working hours
  • Capability of utilizing personal protective equipment and following disease prevention protocol

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with individuals with developmental, cognitive, or intellectual disabilities and Individual Service Plans (ISPs) is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist individuals with their activities of daily living (ADLs)
  • Assist individuals with personal hygiene, grooming, dressing, toileting, ambulating, and eating
  • Assist individuals with managing finances, medication management, housekeeping, and physical and mental exercise
  • Work within the individual’s ISP plans to assist them in achieving goals and outcomes
