About The Position

Since 1958, United Counseling Service (UCS) has been dedicated to providing exceptional care and support to individuals and families in our community. Through a wide range of programs, services, and educational opportunities, we strive to meet the diverse needs of those we serve. Our team includes professionals from various fields, including administration, clinical services, nursing, education, case management, psychiatry, and direct support, working across 17 facilities throughout Bennington County. As a proud affiliate of Vermont Care Partners—a statewide network of 16 non-profit community-based agencies—we deliver comprehensive mental health, substance use, and intellectual and developmental services across Vermont. We are currently seeking compassionate, motivated team players to join us in making a positive impact and building a stronger community. Under the guidance of the Program Coordinator, the Direct Support Professional (DSP) plays a vital role in supporting individuals with intellectual disabilities to develop employment skills, achieve greater independence, and successfully integrate into the workforce. This position provides hands-on support in community-based employment settings, fostering inclusion and personal growth.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent. Relevant experience in human services field preferred.
  • Driver's License and reliable transportation to transport clients

Responsibilities

  • Provide transportation to and from employment sites using a personal or agency vehicle.
  • Teach job functions and task steps, with the goal of promoting client independence.
  • Implement strategies to build skills and enhance workplace success.
  • Collaborate with the client’s supervisor to encourage autonomy and effective communication.
  • Support the development of natural workplace relationships and social connections.
  • Empower individuals to pursue their employment goals and make informed choices.
  • Serve as a positive role model for clients and the broader employment community.
  • Assist with personal care needs when required.
  • Ensure client safety in all settings.
  • Follow schedules established by the Program Administrator and Coordinator.
  • Advocate for clients across all environments.
  • Communicate using the individual’s preferred method (e.g., sign language, interpreter, facilitated communication) and respect unique communication styles.
  • Adhere to all support plans and Developmental Services (DS) policies.
  • Complete required training and actively contribute as part of a dynamic team.
  • Accurately and promptly complete all DS documentation, including billing, progress notes, monthly summaries, and sequence sheets.
  • Maintain familiarity with each client’s goals and provide detailed, informative notes on progress and observations.
  • Notify the Coordinator and case manager when goals require updates or adjustments.
  • Share relevant information with staff, professionals, and families as needed.
  • Act as an advocate and liaison for individuals served, the Developmental Services Division, and UCS.
  • Participate in team meetings, treatment planning, and goal-setting processes.
  • Promote positive relationships with community partners and encourage ongoing communication among team members.
  • Additional duties may be assigned as needed.
