Job Summary: The Direct Support Professional (DSP) – Community provides hands-on support to individuals with developmental or intellectual disabilities to promote community inclusion, independence, and personal growth. The DSP assists individuals in developing social, communication, and daily living skills while supporting their participation in community-based activities and programs.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of 18 years of age.
  • At least 1 year of experience working with individual with developmental intellectual disabilities.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required for community outings.
  • Current CPR/First Aid certification (or ability to obtain upon hire).
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Compassionate, patient, reliable, and able to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

  • Support individuals in engaging with their community, including social, recreational, educational, or employment activities.
  • Assist with developing and maintaining independent living and social skills, such as budgeting, communication, and self-care.
  • Provide transportation and supervision during community outings and events.
  • Encourage and promote self-advocacy and decision-making skills.
  • Monitor, document, and report progress, behaviors, and any incidents in accordance with agency and DDD policies.
  • Ensure the safety, dignity, and well-being of individuals at all times.
  • Collaborate with family members, case managers, and other team members to implement individualized service plans (ISPs).
  • Participate in required training, meetings, and continuing education as mandated by DDD and agency standards.
