About The Position

At Empowered Services, we provide personalized, one-on-one support for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) in home and community settings. Our team focuses on building independence, life skills, and meaningful daily routines through consistent, relationship-based care. We’re looking for a Part-Time DSP / Caregiver to support a youth in the Salem, OR area . This position blends mentorship, academic support, and everyday life skills coaching . This role is a great fit for someone with experience or interest in: Youth mentorship or coaching Behavioral or emotional support Caregiving / DSP / CNA work Education, tutoring, or academic support You’ll be working with a youth who: Enjoys video games, relaxing, and spending time with the family’s dogs Is friendly, thoughtful, and enjoys talking and asking questions Prefers a low-pressure, easygoing environment Can become frustrated when things don’t go as expected Tends to think in very concrete, black-and-white ways May have difficulty with social cues or abstract concepts Is currently doing school online and needs help staying engaged Doesn’t always ask for help, so consistent support and check-ins matter He does best with someone who: brings positive energy, stays patient, and can motivate without being overbearing If you enjoy building connections, supporting growth, and being a positive, consistent presence in someone’s life, this could be a great fit. We’re especially interested in candidates who can bring energy, patience, and a steady approach to supporting youth.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years or older
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
  • Current auto insurance (meeting state requirements)
  • Ability to pass a background check (not all records are disqualifying)
  • Comfortable around dogs (very active household pets)

Nice To Haves

  • Background in DSP work, caregiving, or behavioral support
  • Experience with youth, learning differences, or autism support
  • Experience with school support or tutoring
  • CPR / First Aid certification

Responsibilities

  • Provide one-on-one support in the home and community
  • Assist with online school navigation (encouragement, reminders, guidance—not doing work for him)
  • Help build daily structure, routines, and follow-through
  • Encourage participation in household tasks and independent living skills
  • Support community involvement (grocery shopping, outings, activities)
  • Engage through shared interests like video games and conversation
  • Offer calm redirection and support during moments of frustration
  • Help develop social awareness and communication skills
  • Check in proactively, as he may not always ask for help
  • Maintain clear communication with the team and complete documentation
