About The Position

The Direct Support Professional is responsible for the direct care, development, implementation, coordination, provision of program services to adults with disabilities. You will need to implement, supervise, and encourage client participation in social, leisure, and recreational activities, and accurately complete and document daily goals. An individual in this position must be able to successfully perform the essential duties and responsibilities listed above. Requirements

  • Education: High School diploma or GED required.
  • Experience: Preferred past work experience with persons with disabilities.
  • Ability to meet physical and mental requirements necessary to perform all functions of position.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Communication and relational skills to interact in a professional manner with parents, guardians, staff, and clients.
  • Technology/Equipment: Ability to operate a variety of office equipment to include but not limited to personal computers, printers, and scanners, Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite software.
  • Physical Demands: This position requires physical abilities that include one or more of the following (this is not a comprehensive list): pushing or pulling persons in wheelchairs, transferring persons weighing at least 100 pounds to and from wheelchairs with another staff person, lifting 25 pounds, frequent bending, stooping, kneeling motions, physical interventions.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct care to individuals we serve according to their Individual Service Plans.
  • Fosters positive relationships between caretakers and individuals served.
  • Participate in planning, preparation, and implementation of daily activities.
  • Encourage client participation in community integration opportunities and recreational activities.
  • Encourages self-help activities.
  • Assists with personal cares as needed.
  • Reminds and assists clients with self-administration of medications (with proper training).
  • Reports changes in client’s condition or family situation to administrators and supervisors.
  • Ensures client safety and maintaining a safe environment.
  • Documentation of services provided per regulations.
  • Actively participate in the Individual Program planning process.
  • Maintain up-to-date working knowledge of changes in the HCBS and CARF rules.
  • Complete 9.5 hours of online training within the first 30 days of hire. Must be certified in CPR and First Aid or be willing to obtain certification within 6 months of hire. Certification as a Medication Manager or able to obtain training and certification within 6 months of start date.
  • Maintain current driver's license and current auto insurance.
