About The Position

The Direct Support Professional (DSP) provides direct care and support to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in their individual homes. The DSP assists clients with daily living activities, implements individualized service plans, and ensures the health, safety, and well-being of each client.

Requirements

  • Ability to read and write English (all documentation and training are in English).
  • Compassion, patience, and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • High school diploma or equivalent (required for DSPs providing Day Hab, Career Planning, and Supported Employment).
  • Minimum age of 18 (20 for Supportive Employment and Career Planning roles).
  • Valid New Jersey driver’s license (if transporting individuals).
  • Submit to a criminal background check and be determined not disqualified by the Department of Human Services prior to working with individuals served.
  • Agree to have name checked against the Central Registry of Offenders Against Individuals with Developmental Disabilities.
  • Submit to drug testing prior to employment, and agree to ongoing random and for-cause drug testing.
  • Complete an application to have name checked against the Child Abuse Registry Information (CARI).
  • Consent to exclusionary checks as per Appendix I, completed initially and monthly as applicable.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities preferred.
  • For professional service providers (nurse, psychologist, etc.), must possess credentials required by Federal or State law.

Responsibilities

  • Provide personal care, meal preparation, and household support.
  • Support clients in community engagement and social activities.
  • Implement and document individualized service plans.
  • Administer medications if required (must be certified and trained).
  • Cooperate fully with the licensee and Department of Human Services staff in any inspection, inquiry, or investigation.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and ensure compliance with all DDD regulations.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, families, and team members.
  • Transport individuals as needed (valid driver’s license required).
