What are we looking for? We are looking to add a Residential Support Specialist to our team. As a Support Specialist you will provide support to individuals with disabilities in developing and/or maintaining skills that will enhance the quality of their lives in the community; assist with personal care, household tasks and daily routines; perform other job-related duties as assigned. Your overall essential responsibilities will be the following: Observe and respond to individuals’ physical, social, behavioral and personal needs. Provide adequate supervision for individuals to facilitate their health and safety. Will: Be fully trained on individuals’ Individual Support Plan (ISP) and any special plans or therapy. Be fully trained in the individuals’ Behavior Support Plan (BSP) and report to supervisor as required for incidents. Implement and document daily the training outcomes and action steps in the ISP as required during the time the support was delivered. Administer medication to individuals; ensure that administration is timely, in the right dosage and documented on the Medication Administration Record (MAR) as required. Transport individuals to and from appointments, employment and/or community sites. Ensure individuals are appropriately groomed for all activities, employment and appointments, Assist with the planning and implementation of daily activities. Prepare meals or assist with the preparation of meals in accordance with Individual Support Plan and any diet orders, adaptive equipment or mealtime plans. Assist with the daily household chores, to include but not limited to laundry, meal preparation and cleaning. Attend and participate in all relevant agency events, workshops, training and meetings; and Performs other job-related duties as assigned Secondary Functions: Assist with medical appointments. Requirements

  • Ability to gain working knowledge of St. John’s Community Services policies and procedures.
  • Ability to act as a representative of St. John’s Community Services to the public.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and coordinate with other staff members and individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check.
  • Knowledge of acceptable food preparation and safety practices and procedures; and
  • Skilled in the operation of relevant computer systems, including hardware and software, and office machines.
  • Obtain a valid health certificate to meet SJCS or current funding authority requirements as required.
  • Meet SJCS and the funding authority requirement of criminal background and record checks.
  • Valid state-issued driver's license with current driver's record in good standing

Nice To Haves

  • High school diploma or G.E.D. preferred
  • Two or more years’ experience working with people with disabilities preferred.
  • Experience in community based residential programs a plus.
