AHRC New York City is seeking Full-Time Direct Support Professionals (DSP) for their Day Programs in ALL FIVE BOROUGHS. Pay Rate: $17-$19.10 per hour (depending on driving status). Hire-in rate is $17 per hour, increases to $18 after six months if in good standing and additional $2000 annual bonus upon completion and passing of AHRC Defensive driving class. Plus this position comes with a low cost, comprehensive benefit package. Schedule - Monday thru Friday 8:30am to 3:30pm.

  • Support individuals with disabilities in leading self-directed lives.
  • Support individuals with disabilities in becoming valued members of their communities.
  • Provide direct training and support in individuals’ home and/or community.
  • Empower individuals and their families by providing the support and information necessary to make informed choices and decisions.
  • Collaborate with individuals and others to plan and implement supports that build upon individual strengths, choices and capabilities.
  • Develop and expand meaningful community opportunities.
  • Work with the supervisor on developing and implementing an effective plan, ensuring compliance with OPWDD regulations, agency policies, and agency values.
  • Help build the self-esteem and assertiveness necessary to lead a self-determining life.
  • Use formal and informal methods to learn about the needs, interests and desires of individuals.
  • Assist individuals in identifying the formal and informal supports available in their community, family and social network and work with them to develop and sustain relationships with friends, family and community members.
  • Assist individuals in managing everyday aspects of life by utilizing habilitative strategies and providing supports in a manner that builds on individual strengths and capabilities and maximizes choices.
  • Personal and/or Professional experience working with individuals with disabilities is preferred.
  • Knowledge of Home and Community Based Waiver, and the ability to keep up to date pertaining to such knowledge, and interpret same.
  • Understanding of Person Centered Planning.
  • Reasonable flexibility in work hours and ability to respond to the scheduling needs of the individual.
  • Ability to establish and maintain a working relationship with program participants, families, staff and community agencies.
  • High School diploma or GED is required.
  • Ability to communicate both orally and in written form in English.
