About The Position

A Direct Support Professional (DSP) caregiver provides direct support, positive direction, instruction, and assistance to individuals with mental, intellectual & developmental, and physical disabilities. The ultimate goal is to empower individuals with disabilities to live as independently and comfortably as possible while maintaining their dignity and respect. Floats fill in at different programs around Lake and Porter County. The schedule is varied (days/evenings/weekends). Requirements

  • 18 years or older
  • Valid driver's license required (due to transporting persons served)
  • Candidates must be comfortable driving to transport persons served as required
  • Good communication is key in this role. You’ll rely on your reading, writing, and communication skills to document care, follow support plans, and collaborate with both internal and external team members.
  • A successful background clearance is required as part of the onboarding/employment process

Responsibilities

  • Provide hands-on assistance, encouragement, mentoring, and guidance.
  • Coordinate services for the individuals served, including finance, medical, recreation, program services, family contact/involvement, education, and household management.
  • Ensure the comfort, safety, and personal growth of the individuals we serve.
  • Assist with daily living tasks such as moving around, getting in and out of bed, dressing, bathing, personal hygiene, and more.
  • Perform housekeeping and laundry duties, including cleaning, organizing, maintaining a safe and tidy living environment, and washing, drying, folding, and putting away clothes and linens.
  • Build relationships with persons served and teammates.
  • Attend special community occasions and fun activities like outdoor walks, games, and social events.
  • Transport persons served to appointments or other activities outside the home.
  • Empower people with disabilities to live life to the fullest.
  • Document progress, milestones, and action steps.
