About The Position

Thank you for reviewing our Direct Support Professional position at ResCare Community Living. As a DSP, you play a crucial role in helping us provide compassionate care to our clients. At ResCare Community Living, our Direct Support Professionals are the heart of our company with their compassion, dependability and care. Our crisis homes provide support and supervision to person's served with disabilities and/or mental illness that need crisis intervention services and/or behavioral programs to rehabilitate/stabilize and transition person's served back to permanent housing. Staff are required have 3 years experience working with individuals with the following: severe mental illness, crisis, physical interventions, and behavior supports. Including challenging behaviors of property destruction, manipulation, inaccurate reporting, elopement, paranoia, substance abuse, isolation and/or self-injury. Staff must be well trained and have at least 3 years experience in using positive redirection and behavior modification programs. Working with individuals with mental health conditions including bipolar, schizophrenia, depression, anxiety, PTSD, substance use disorders, obsessive compulsive disorder, intermittent explosive disorder, antisocial personality disorders, etc. The role of staff is to maintain safety and to support person served to allow them to be the best they can be, individually and/or within the community while reducing distress and providing a purpose in their lives. Implement formal/informal crisis plans, program plans and/or behavioral objectives using person-centered planning. Maintain documentation, record keeping and participate in regular meetings and complete required training. Take initiative when responding to a crisis, monitor the safety of person's served, and provide support and supervision in a positive therapeutic manner with the least restrictive methods of positive intervention. Enable person's served to make choices in all areas of their lives. Encourage use of public resources and recreational facilities; provide community integration opportunities. Provide transportation for appointments and activities.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Must have a valid driver's license
  • Ability to work in a group home, home-like setting
  • Ability to communicate (verbally and written) with all levels of personnel, internal and external
  • Staff are required have 3 years experience working with individuals with the following: severe mental illness, crisis, physical interventions, and behavior supports. Responsibilities

  • Performing personal care tasks, including feeding, ambulation, and medical monitoring
  • Assist with fostering positive relationships between individuals served and their housemates
  • Ensuring client safety and maintaining a safe environment
  • Encouraging self-help activities
  • Accompanying clients to scheduled appointments
  • Implement formal/informal crisis plans, program plans and/or behavioral objectives using person-centered planning.
  • Maintain documentation, record keeping and participate in regular meetings and complete required training.
