Metrocare is the largest provider of mental health services in North Texas, serving over 55,000 adults and children annually. For over 50 years, Metrocare has provided a broad array of services to people with mental health challenges and developmental disabilities. In addition to behavioral health care, Metrocare provides primary care centers for adults and children, services for veterans and their families, accessible pharmacies, housing, and supportive social services. Alongside clinical care, researchers and teachers from Metrocare’s Altshuler Center for Education & Research are advancing mental health beyond Dallas County while providing critical workforce to the state. The HCS/TxHmL/CLASS/General Revenue program at Metrocare Services provides case management and direct personal support to eligible individuals with developmental disabilities. Services are provided in the community and residential/group home settings. The Direct Support Professional provides training and support to meet the needs of individuals living in Metrocare group homes or within their own homes. Assignments may include group home shifts or community services such as in-home training, doctor’s appointments, transportation, respite & office duties. Work involves providing rehabilitative services with the goal of assisting each person to become as independent as possible. The Direct Support Professional II position provides daily living, personal hygiene, social skills training and behavioral management skills training, as needed, for each person assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Provide rehabilitative services to assist individuals in becoming as independent as possible.
  • Deliver daily living, personal hygiene, social skills training, and behavioral management skills training.
  • Assist individuals with medication and treatment plans as needed.
  • Train individuals in the care and cleaning of their living area or home.
  • Complete all required documentation such as daily notes and incident reports.
  • Implement behavioral and other programs as trained and requested.
  • Provide transportation for individuals served in the company vehicle.
  • Report accidents/incidents and suspected cases of abuse or neglect.
  • Assist with emergencies and urgent matters as they arise.
  • Maintain a healthy, safe, and therapeutic environment for individuals.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Basic math skills required.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple instructions.
  • Demonstrate high ethical standards in all professional relationships.
  • Ability to establish a comfortable and supportive relationship with individuals receiving support.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and remain calm in crisis situations.
  • Use computer, printer, and software programs necessary to the position.

Nice-to-haves

  • 1 year of experience working with people with Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities.
