About The Position
The Direct Support Professional (DSP) position is a vital role that provides comprehensive support and instruction to intellectually and developmentally disabled adults in both residential and community settings. This position is available in multiple formats, including full-time, part-time, and PRN (as needed), ensuring flexibility to meet the needs of the residents and the organization. The DSP is responsible for delivering 24/7 support, which includes assisting residents with daily living skills and self-care routines. This encompasses a wide range of activities such as hygiene, eating, mobility, money management, and communication skills, all aimed at fostering independence and enhancing the quality of life for the residents. In addition to personal care, the DSP plays a crucial role in facilitating community engagement. This includes taking clients out for recreational activities like bowling, visiting local parks, and participating in social events such as holiday parties and dances. The DSP also supports residents in volunteering at local food banks and businesses, thereby promoting social inclusion and community involvement. Behavioral interventions are also a key aspect of the role, where the DSP makes supportive interventions to help residents navigate their daily challenges. The position requires the DSP to assist residents with medical appointments, ensuring they receive the necessary healthcare support. Transportation of residents is conducted via an agency van, which is an essential part of the role. The DSP is also responsible for dispensing and recording medications, providing a critical health management function. In addition to these responsibilities, the DSP participates in housekeeping and meal preparation activities, contributing to a safe and nurturing living environment. Securing the facility according to policy is also a key responsibility, ensuring the safety and well-being of all residents.
