The Direct Support Professional (DSP) is responsible for the implementation of the client's Individualized Strategies, under the direction of a Qualified Intellectual Disabilities Professional. The DSP demonstrates this through daily documentation of service provided including but not limited to recreation, leisure, and activities of daily living for each client to whom they are responsible. The DSP will assure client rights, dignity, and privacy, while maintaining a clean and safe environment. The DSP may work with clients with maladaptive behaviors, which can include but are not limited to verbal aggression, physical aggression, self-injurious behavior, property destruction, and elopement. The DSP may also work with clients who require intensive care including but not limited to toileting and bathing, special diets with personal and/or enteral feeding, and enhanced funding. The DSP is assigned to a primary location, however, must be able to work across any site assigned, as determined by program needs.

  • Implement the client's Individualized Strategies under the direction of a Qualified Intellectual Disabilities Professional.
  • Document daily services provided including recreation, leisure, and activities of daily living.
  • Assure client rights, dignity, and privacy while maintaining a clean and safe environment.
  • Work with clients exhibiting maladaptive behaviors.
  • Assist clients with intensive care needs including toileting, bathing, and special diets.
  • Work across various assigned sites as determined by program needs.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) or Autism Certificate desired.
  • Experience working with developmentally disabled adults preferred.
  • Must be able to lift or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Pass S-TOFHLA literacy test.
  • Complete required DSP and Medication Administration Training, including CPR, First Aid, Infection Control, OIG Rule 50, and CPI.
  • Maintain medication administration authorization.
  • Complete additional on-the-job certification for enteral nutrition tasks.
  • Maintain valid Illinois driver's license.
  • Access to a personal automobile and cell phone.
