About The Position

RRSI offers a shift differential of $1.50 per hour (in addition to the base hourly rate) for all hours worked from 4P to 7A. This position provides assistance to professional case management and supervisory personnel in delivering person-centered services in a community residential program for adults with a range of mild to severe intellectual disabilities. The role is distinguished from the Direct Support Professional 4 and 5 positions by not having direct responsibility for case management but rather focusing on providing a wide range of client support activities. General supervision is received from the Residential Supervisor who assigns work and reviews upon completion.

Requirements

  • High school diploma with one year experience in the field of intellectual disabilities and/or community residential services preferred.
  • Valid Virginia Driver's license and acceptable Department of Motor Vehicles Driving Record.
  • Ability to successfully pass a background check and other pre-employment screening.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of intellectual disability concepts and principles of normalization.
  • Experience with positive behavior supports and family support.
  • Basic computer literacy and keyboarding skills.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in carrying out scheduled independent living program activities related to supporting clients; serves as a role model and provides guidance related to shopping, personal money management, diet planning, food preparation, home management, personal hygiene, physical fitness, and social activities.
  • Assists in developing goals and objectives for the systematic training and behavior modification of supported individuals; applies knowledge of positive and non-aversive approaches.
  • Provides timely transportation to supported individuals for daily commuting, healthcare needs, and leisure activities.
  • Assists with the administration of medication following agency policy and conducts daily medication audits.
  • Ensures the safety of supported individuals and protects them from harm, abuse, and exploitation; provides crisis intervention and first aid as necessary.
  • Maintains ongoing contact with client families and coordinates community resources to address individual needs.
  • Encourages clients to participate in a variety of leisure activities.
  • Interacts with individuals with dignity and respect, ensuring no verbal, mental, or physical abuse occurs.
  • Reports any observation of rights violations to the supervisor or program director.
  • Offers supported individuals choices about their daily activities.
