About The Position

(Position is temporary, possible permanent) The Direct Support Professional II (DSP II) position is assigned a shift where the job requirements will involve training and support services for people with Intellectual & Developmental Disabilities (IDD). The position requires work in a Home and Community-Based Services (HCS) group home. The Direct Support Professional II position is responsible for providing the following assistance to individuals: activities of daily living assistance (bathing, dressing, toileting, dressing, cooking, laundry, etc.), medical monitoring and medication distribution, social skills training, behavioral management skills training, ensuring client safety and maintaining a safe living environment. Additional duties include general maintenance of Center vehicles (washing, vacuuming, refilling fuel), cleaning duties around the home and any other duties assigned by the HCS Supervisor or the IDD Community Services Program Manager. Services provided are to be delivered in a timely manner and accuracy of documentation is a requirement. The Direct Support Professional II position provides all services in accordance with the Texas Administrative Code for HCS & TxHmL and HHSC.

Requirements

  • Position requires either a High School Diploma, GED, or 3 letters of reference and the completion of a MHMR Concho Valley competency test.
  • Valid Texas Driver’s License required.
  • Must not have more than 3 moving violations in the last 3 years.
  • Must be insurable and remain insurable on Center’s insurance.
  • Must be able to pass a background check.

Nice To Haves

  • Six (6) months experience in therapeutic work preferred.
  • Knowledge of behavioral direct support techniques as well as the ability to perform PMAB techniques.
  • Skills to sufficiently administer CPR or First Aid in emergency situations.
  • Knowledge of personal assistance techniques such as: assisting with eating, bathing, and toileting.
  • Knowledge of turning and lifting techniques is required.
  • Interpersonal skills for positive interactions with people served and co-workers are required.
  • Skills necessary to read, understand and act upon written material and verbal requests.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
