The Direct Service Worker (DSW) position at the Louisiana Association for Challenged Adults is a full-time role focused on providing support and instruction to individuals with developmental disabilities. The DSW will work primarily during weekdays from 7:30 AM to 2:30 PM, engaging in various activities that promote individual development and life skills. The role requires a commitment to creating a positive and inclusive environment for participants, ensuring that their needs are met through structured activities and personal interaction. In this position, the DSW will be responsible for planning and implementing instructional activities across several fields, including arts and crafts, music, computer lab, exercise, library, recreation, and vocational training. The DSW will also be tasked with submitting weekly plans that reflect the instructional categories and maintaining accurate participant records. Effective communication with participants, staff, family members, and visitors is essential, as is the ability to manage time and workload efficiently. The DSW will also be expected to complete required professional development, including proficiency exams, and to support co-workers by taking on additional responsibilities as needed. The role emphasizes the importance of punctuality, high-level job performance, and proactive problem-solving in the workplace. The DSW must also adhere to company policies regarding vacation requests and attendance, ensuring that any absences are communicated to the supervisor in a timely manner.
