About The Position

The role of a Direct Support Professional (DSP) is to work with children and adults, and their families on mastering daily living skills. Applicants will work in our program serving individuals with developmental disabilities ages 8 to 55. Services are provided in the individual's home or community setting. This provides leisure activities for the individual while engaging their interests. Activities as a DSP involve facilitating the following: daily living tasks, socializing with peers, travel training, interacting with community members, and understanding social boundaries in multiple settings.

Requirements

  • Applicants must be at least 18 years old and legal to work in the US.
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Ability to communicate in either Mandarin or Cantonese as well as English.
  • Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within the parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices.
  • Computer proficiency (MS Office Word, Excel, and Outlook).
  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
  • Must be able to lift 35 lbs.
  • Must be able to talk, listen and speak clearly.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience providing direct services to individuals with a developmental and/or intellectual disability OR pursuing a degree in education, social work, nursing, or psychology is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate that the individual meets their service plan goals.
  • Establish and maintain a collaborative schedule between the family and the DSP.
  • Communicate effectively with the individual, families, and supervisors.
  • Advocate on behalf of the individual
  • Assist the individual with overcoming their personal challenges.
  • Model positive interactions.
  • Problem-solve and communicate with supervisors as needed.
  • Document session activities with the individuals in a timely manner.
  • Bilingual in either Cantonese or Mandarin.
  • Complete annual mandatory trainings.
