About The Position

This is an open and continuous posting for Full-Time and Part-Time positions on multiple shifts servicing the Behavioral Stabilization Units in Baldwinville, MA for DDS. The Department of Developmental Services (DDS) seeks caring and compassionate applicants for the role of DIRECT CARE WORKER II (DCW II), within the Stabilization Program, who are committed to building meaningful relationships and provide outstanding care and service. The Emergency Stabilization Program is a constantly changing environment serving individuals in crisis with a wide variety of complex support needs, many with violent and extreme behaviors. The Direct Care Worker II position provides oversight and direct services to individuals with developmental disabilities. This is to be accomplished by the provision of an environment consistent with participants' needs in daily living and those skills necessary for community life. Requirements

  • Employees applying for this assignment will be required to successfully complete the Proactive Approaches to Behavioral Challenges (PABC) within 6 months to have this position. Staff that is unable to complete the training will be ineligible for the assignment. This posting requires interested candidates including current employees in the same title to go through the interview process as this position requires specialized training.
  • Must possess current and valid Class D Motor Vehicle Operator's License
  • Applicants must pass the Medication Administration Program (MAP) certification
  • After successfully completing a training program, the selected candidate must acquire and maintain; Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid (FA) certification.
  • Applicants must have (A) at least one (1) year of full-time or equivalent part-time, experience in providing direct support services to persons with developmental/ intellectual, emotional or physical disabilities, or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and substitutions below.
  • An Associate's degree or higher with a major in a human services field, including sociology, special education, psychology, rehabilitation counseling, occupational therapy, physical therapy, or other related field may be substituted for the required experience.
  • Incumbents are required to possess a current and valid motor vehicle driver's license at a class level specific to assignment.
  • Successful candidates will be required to acknowledge and attest to your vaccination status for both COVID-19 and Influenza.

  • Capability to assist/lift individuals with physical disabilities and/or limited mobility.
  • Ability to transcribe, read and comprehend the English language.
  • Competent to help develop, cultivate, and nurture a team atmosphere.

Responsibilities

  • Assist individuals in meeting his/her personal care and nutritional needs
  • Assist and support individuals in making choices in his/her life
  • Maintain individuals' rights by complying with applicable laws and regulations
  • Provide leisure activities; may drive individuals to work, appointments, and to recreational activities
  • Advocate for the individuals and demonstrate; respect and positive regard for individuals with developmental disabilities
  • Oversee, the health and safety of the individuals by administering medications
  • Provide supports to individuals on behavioral unit who exhibit challenging and extreme behaviors
  • Monitors the health and Safety of the individuals, adhere to rules and regulations, as well as communicate with appropriate nursing and DSW supervisors regarding individual's health concerns.
  • Complete daily reports and collect information necessary to document incidents that occur during the shift.
