About The Position

VTC Enterprises dba LOVARC has been supporting adults with developmental disabilities since opening our doors in the 1960’s. Under the guidance of the Residential Manager, Direct Care Staff provide daily support to individuals with developmental disabilities by assisting with personal care, skill development, and individualized program goals. This position is responsible for promoting resident safety, well-being, and independence while maintaining an inclusive, supportive, and structured home environment that enhances each person’s quality of life. Requirements

  • Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Communication skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as procedure manuals or reports in English. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence in English. Ability to understand and remember written and oral instructions. Ability to speak effectively before groups of Individuals served or coworkers.
  • Interpersonal skills: Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with residents, coworkers and management. Ability to build rapport and earn trust. Ability to interact professionally with the public. Ability to foster an inclusive, stimulating learning environment where residents can thrive.
  • Self-management skills: Ability to perform effectively in environments with frequent changes and competing demands. Ability to set priorities which accurately reflect job responsibilities. Ability to work independently and follow through on assignments with minimal direction. Ability to work conscientiously and proactively provide excellent care, supervision and a safe environment.
  • Reasoning ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but basic written or oral instructions. Ability to consider potential consequences before making decisions. Ability to recognize emergency situations and take appropriate actions. Ability to make appropriate job-related decisions based on policy and established precedent.
  • Computer skills: Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office software and ability to use the agency’s client database effectively.
  • Certificates, licenses, registrations: Ability to obtain and maintain First Aid, CPR and CPI Certifications.
  • Other skills and abilities: Must meet and maintain Community Care Licensing criminal history criteria.

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of 15-18 college units with course work to include studies in counseling, social work, special education or related field, preferred.
  • Minimum 6 months’ experience working, directly or indirectly, with individuals with developmental disabilities preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Direct Support & Personal Care Support residents in developing interpersonal and social skills by encouraging positive behavior and appropriate interactions.
  • Assist residents with daily routines, personal care, and skill-building as needed.
  • Serve as a role model for appropriate behavior, appearance, hygiene, and language.
  • Prepare meals in accordance with residents’ dietary and medical requirements.
  • Provide continuous supervision of residents and remain on duty until properly relieved.
  • Program Implementation & Skill Development Implement individualized program plans and quarterly objectives as assigned.
  • Provide supervision during training activities, daily routines, and recreational/social programs.
  • Promote educational, recreational, and community-based opportunities tailored to resident abilities and interests.
  • Documentation, Reporting & Communication Monitor resident progress daily and maintain accurate records, charts, and documentation.
  • Record observations, incidents, and behaviors in the facility logbook each shift.
  • Report injuries, illnesses, property damage, or critical incidents to the Residential Manager and complete incident reports.
  • Maintain open communication with the Residential Manager and participate in team discussions or check-ins.
  • Attend ISP and HRC meetings when requested.
  • Maintain positive communication with families, day program staff, consultants, and regional center coordinators.
  • Safety, Emergency Response & Medication Support Administer first aid when necessary.
  • Dispense and document medications in accordance with licensing and agency requirements.
  • Advocate for residents’ rights and support normalization principles.
  • Implement emergency or evacuation procedures during drills or actual emergencies.
  • Remain on duty during emergencies or disasters until formally relieved.
  • Report suspected abuse according to agency reporting policy and procedures.
  • Home Environment & Facility Maintenance Maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming home environment by assisting residents with chores and completing assigned staff tasks.
  • Support residents in using household equipment safely and responsibly.
  • Training, Meetings, & Professional Conduct Attend required staff meetings, in-service programs, and training sessions.
  • Follow all agency policies, procedures, and standards of care.
  • Represent the organization professionally in all interactions.
