About the Program and Direct Care Coach Position: Cayuga Centers is actively seeking a compassionate Direct Care Coach passionate about making a positive impact in the lives of individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities (I/DD). Using a person-centered and strength-based approach grounded in Applied Behavior Analysis, our team empowers individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities to choose their life goals, participate in their community, and enjoy meaningful activities tailored to their interests. By fostering relationships, building skills, and creating opportunities for engagement, we strive to create a supportive environment where the I/DD population can navigate their unique challenges and achieve their hopes and dreams. Requirements

  • High School Diploma with one year of experience working with I/DD population
  • Within a designated period after hiring, must obtain and maintain certification in OPWDD Medication Administration, First Aid, CPR, and other certifications mandated by licensing agencies
  • Valid NYS Driver’s License and ability to transport individuals to and from activities as assigned
  • Respect individuals as persons of dignity and worth who are capable of growth and development
  • Enjoy working in a life-sharing relationship with others
  • Time on your feet for up to several hours a day
  • Lifting to 50 pounds
  • Ability to transport individuals and drive for up to 4 consecutive hours
  • Ability to walk, run, jump, and participate in physical activities with the individuals
  • Ability to stand/walk for a minimum of 6 hours on an 8 hour shift and 10 hours on a 12 hour shift.

Responsibilities

  • Bring your support, acceptance, and joy to share each day
  • Provide direct care, individual-specific programming, and supervision to one or more assigned individuals from the I/DD population
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of individuals while supporting their personal needs, recreation, and socialization activities to meet the goals and objectives of the Service Plan
  • Play a valuable role in establishing and sustaining an individualized program focus with communication and relationship building with caregivers and family members
