About The Position

Hampton-Newport News Community Services Board (H-NNCSB) is seeking compassionate, dependable Direct Care Associates (Direct Support Professionals - DSPs) to support adults with developmental disabilities in residential services, group homes, Intermediate Care Facilities (ICFs), and community-based IDD programs. Since 1971, H-NNCSB has provided high-quality, community-based services that support adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) in developing independence, life skills, and meaningful community participation. Services are delivered through person-centered care across Creative Options, Waiver services, and ICF programs. These programs support individuals in developing daily living skills, community integration, employment-related skills, problem-solving abilities, and social and behavioral independence through structured residential and community-based supports.

Requirements

  • One (1) year of direct care experience working with adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities or mental illness
  • Valid driver's license required
  • Ability to follow instructions, work collaboratively, and maintain accurate documentation
  • The selected candidate must successfully pass a criminal history fingerprint background investigation, DMV record check, Child Registry search, drug screening test and employment reference checks.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in residential care, group homes, or community-based IDD services preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct support services consistent with Direct Support Professional (DSP) standards
  • Assist individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities with personal care, hygiene, meal preparation, and daily living activities
  • Support medication administration and mobility needs
  • Implement individualized service plans and document client progress accurately
  • Provide behavioral support and life skills coaching
  • Maintain a safe, structured, and supportive environment
  • Collaborate with supervisors, case managers, families, and other providers
  • Support community integration and participation
  • Participate in shift leadership responsibilities as assigned
