To learn more visit https://www.doctorshosplaredo.com JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for the 24-hour leadership and management of the Surgical Services departments typically including Pre-op, PAT, OR, PACU, Anesthesia, Endo, SPD, OR Supply Management and other assigned areas to ensure the facility meets the established standards of care. Responsible for interacting with hospital staff, patients, families, visitors, and/or ancillary departments regarding patient care, concerns and conflicts by identifying and assisting resolution. Responsible and accountable for maintaining performance skills of their employees, assuring regulatory and accreditation readiness, and maintaining staff schedules, payroll, orientation, staff meetings, policies, performance improvement, and is accountable for budget compliance and budget variance. Routinely works week days, but may need to support staff at other times when necessary. This position summary contains the most basic duties and does not exclude other assignments not mentioned.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited school of nursing.
  • Registered Nurse currently licensed in the State of Texas, or part of a compact state license, or has a valid temporary RN license for the State of Texas while waiting to receive the permanent license.
  • New hires as of December 1, 2009 must have BSN (or Bachelor’s in related field)
  • Master’s preferred
  • CNOR required or will obtain on the job within a time frame.
  • Internal candidates without a BSN may be considered based upon a written agreement that they will obtain their BSN within a predetermined time frame after transfer to the Director position. This timeframe will be determined based on review of current educational credits and degree plan and education plan development with the System CNO. Failure to obtain their BSN within the prescribed time may result in removal from the Director position.
  • Must have and maintain current certifications, according to unit specific needs. Certification must be in accordance with the curriculum of the AHA, for Healthcare Provider’s Program. Maintains ACLS and BLS.
  • Four years of previous RN experience required.
  • 3-5 years previous Acute Care Surgical Services Leadership Experience (RN).
  • Capable of exhibiting strong leadership presence throughout the organization related to all initiatives. Possesses ability to look beyond scope of individual responsibility to act as stewards of UHS’s resources.
  • Detailed clinical and operations experience.
  • Demonstrated teamwork, written and verbal communication and analytical skills.
  • Computer skills with proficiency in MS Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • English verbal and written fluency.
  • Must demonstrate commitment and adherence to DHL’s Compliance Program and Code of Conduct through compliance with all policies and procedures, the Code of Conduct, attendance at required training and immediately reporting suspected compliance issue(s) to the Compliance Officer.

Responsibilities

  • Provides Clinical and Compliance guidance to facility Surgical Services Departments.
  • Assists with assessment, mentoring, and support of facility based surgical services staff. Provides Surgical Services expertise to Quality, Performance Improvement, Nursing, Finance, Supply Management and Information Technology.
  • Creates, reviews and revises Surgical Services policies, procedures and practices as needed.
  • Assesses current staff education structure and processes within Surgical Services and provides best practices for implementation to include Staff education and competencies.
  • Facilitates sharing of ideas, strategies, and tactics to achieve departmental targets. Mobilizes resources required by the opportunities. Collaborates with Corporate and Facility leaders on the hand off and completion of all initiatives.
  • Assesses and provides UHS Surgical Service Departments with the appropriate Staffing to Demand within their areas utilizing tools to measure, track, monitor and report the facility department processes.
  • Develops presentations, projects, work plans, timelines and milestones. Assumes initial responsibility for measuring, tracking, monitoring, and reporting initiatives. Provides routine status updates.
  • Create and convey the mission and vision of perioperative services with the assistance of the management team.
  • Ensures staff members provide safe and effective patient-centered care in the perioperative department.
  • Assists leadership team in evaluating practice and incorporating evidence-based knowledge into decisions for safe, quality patient care.
  • Coordinates, facilitates, and manages change and process improvement initiatives.
  • Demonstrates effective communication skills including negotiation, collaboration, and conflict management.
