Job Description The Commissioning Director provides senior leadership and technical oversight for all commissioning activities on large Mining & Metals EPC projects. This role oversees the full commissioning lifecycle from pre commissioning through start up and performance testing, ensuring systems and facilities are safely transitioned to operations. The position supports commissioning activities for major Mining & Metals facilities within Fluor’s EPC portfolio.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • Ability to work on active construction sites including remote or international locations.
  • Willingness to travel or accept extended project assignments as needed.
  • Strong commitment to safety and Zero Harm principles.
  • Ability to lead and communicate effectively across diverse and multicultural project teams.
  • Comfortable working in dynamic EPC project environments with shifting priorities.

Nice To Haves

  • Fifteen or more years of commissioning experience on Mining & Metals or heavy industrial EPC projects.
  • Experience leading commissioning on major capital projects or megaprojects.
  • Background in commissioning process systems including utilities, mechanical systems, electrical systems, instrumentation and controls, and integrated process facilities.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering such as Mechanical, Electrical, or Chemical is preferred.
  • Experience working with major EPC contractors; prior Fluor experience is an advantage.
  • Familiarity with digital completion systems, turnover tools, and commissioning management software.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish or Portuguese is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead all phases of commissioning including pre commissioning, commissioning, start up, and performance testing.
  • Develop and implement commissioning execution plans, schedules, procedures, and system turnover documentation.
  • Collaborate closely with engineering, construction, HSE, quality, project management, and operations to coordinate system readiness.
  • Oversee commissioning test plans, system checklists, punch list activities, and turnover packages.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to multi discipline commissioning teams including engineers, technicians, supervisors, and subcontractors.
  • Identify commissioning risks and implement mitigation strategies to ensure predictable cost and schedule performance.
  • Manage commissioning reporting, system completion tracking, and turnover records using project management and digital completion tools.
  • Ensure commissioning activities meet project safety requirements, regulatory compliance, and Fluor work processes.
  • Serve as the primary interface with client representatives regarding operational readiness, handover procedures, and acceptance criteria.
