About The Position

The Manufacturing Engineering team is part of Global Operations, partnering closely with U.S.‑based Pilot organization and Global Factory Networks in Asia to drive Operational Excellence. This organization drives high quality, productivity, and innovative performance across Lam’s Tualatin manufacturing operations within a culture centered on safety and continuous improvement. As the Director of Manufacturing Engineering for the Tualatin manufacturing site, you will lead the Manufacturing Engineering (ME) organization responsible for Assembly & Test Engineering for wafer fabrication equipment (WFE), Industrial Engineering, Fixture Design, and Work Instructions / Manufacturing Software Engineering. In this role, you will also oversee key performance systems such as Statistical Process Control (SPC) and First‑Pass Yield (FPY) to ensure data‑driven decision‑making and continuous improvement. You will play a critical role in enabling high‑complexity manufacturing by ensuring technical readiness, process stability, and product performance throughout the product lifecycle. This role reports to the Senior Director of Tualatin Manufacturing.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent with 10+ years of experience in relevant operational or manufacturing engineering roles within a global, cross‑functional environment. An advanced degree preferred.
  • Proven ability to build and scale teams, especially in periods of growth or transformation.
  • Background in manufacturing operations in electronics, aerospace, healthcare, or similar high‑complexity industries.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify opportunities, build a compelling vision, and lead multidisciplinary stakeholders through change.
  • Skilled at setting clear expectations, managing accountabilities, and resolving conflicts quickly.

Nice To Haves

  • Strong working knowledge of manufacturing engineering principles, including hands‑on experience managing and improving key operational metrics such as Statistical Process Control (SPC) and First‑Pass Yield (FPY).
  • Lean/Six Sigma certification preferred, with demonstrated competence in structured, data‑driven problem solving.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with strong leadership presence and the ability to influence through data.
  • Proven ability to build effective relationships across all levels of the organization and with global partners.
  • Solid understanding of mechanical engineering principles, vacuum integrity, and basic electrical component behavior.
  • Demonstrated leadership in fostering an inclusive, diverse, and collaborative culture.

Responsibilities

  • Create and execute the mission and vision for Operational Excellence within Tualatin Manufacturing Engineering.
  • Lead a team of Engineering Managers and Engineers who provide assembly and test engineering support, including: Developing and maintaining manufacturing work instructions within CellFusion Interpreting mechanical drawings Managing material quality issues Troubleshooting assembly‑related problems
  • Oversee Test Engineering, including: Deep understanding of product test processes (in‑house testing, Python-based test programs) Troubleshooting test component failures Driving yield improvement and test‑hour reduction initiatives
  • Own Industrial Engineering scope, including: Factory layout optimization Capacity modeling and planning Product knowledge continuity Implementation of engineering changes across the product lifecycle Introduction of new products into manufacturing
  • Design operational flows that maximize throughput, reduce cost, and ensure product quality for Tualatin Manufacturing.
  • Build a strong, capable, data‑driven engineering culture aligned with Lam’s global manufacturing strategy.
