About The Position

Tesla’s Metrology team supports all production lines across LFP battery and power products. This role requires a highly technical, detail-oriented engineer who can bridge design, manufacturing, and quality to ensure all incoming and in-process parts meet stringent dimensional and functional requirements. You will act as a technical authority in dimensional metrology, supporting Engineering teams through robust measurement strategies, GD&T interpretation, and root-cause analysis of dimensional issues across suppliers and internal manufacturing processes.

Requirements

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • 3–5 years of experience in metrology, dimensional engineering, quality engineering, or design engineering
  • Advanced knowledge of GD&T (ASME Y14.5) with the ability to interpret drawings and define effective datum strategies
  • Hands-on experience programming and operating: CMM/OMM; PolyWorks, PC-DIMS, and Calypso etc.

Responsibilities

  • Provide hands-on dimensional engineering support for incoming inspection, production issues, and supplier readiness
  • Develop robust measurement strategies aligned with GD&T intent, part function, and manufacturing capability
  • Support Engineering during design reviews, part releases, and dimensional risk assessments
  • Lead metrology time studies, capacity planning, and KPI development to improve lab throughput and visibility
  • Track and report lab health metrics including turnaround time, utilization, repeatability, and backlog
  • Evaluate, deploy, and validate new metrology equipment, software, and technologies
  • Drive continuous process improvement to enhance measurement robustness, cycle time, and inspection consistency
  • Lead dimensional root cause analysis, data trending, and corrective/preventive actions
  • Serve as the GD&T subject-matter expert, training teams and advising on datum schemes, tolerance stack-ups, and inspection feasibility
