About The Position

The Digital Technician Specialist at Dartmouth College plays a crucial role in supporting Film & Media and Studio Art courses that involve video, sound, and time-based components. This position involves collaboration with faculty, staff, and students to achieve curricular goals, maintain the Digital Lab, and facilitate workshops that enhance the learning experience in digital media. The specialist will also assist in student projects and ensure the upkeep of digital equipment and software.

Requirements

  • BA or BFA degree in Electronic Media, Film, Graphic Design, Studio Art, or related areas; or a combination of education in different disciplines.
  • 1-2 years of experience supporting or overseeing an academic computer lab in an educational setting.
  • Proficiency in Mac equipment and Adobe Creative Suite (Premiere, Photoshop, Illustrator, Animate, After Effects, InDesign, Audition, Twine).
  • Knowledge of flatbed scanners and digital printing.
  • Creative problem-solving skills and ability to cultivate a collaborative environment in the Digital Lab.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical information effectively to non-technical users under pressure.
  • Experience facilitating technical workshops and/or teaching with software.

Nice To Haves

  • MFA degree in a related field.
  • Experience as an artist, filmmaker, designer, or interdisciplinary practitioner.
  • Basic knowledge of data wrangling and data visualization, Rhino, AutoDesk, Autocad, Revitt, coding, physical computing (such as Raspberry PI and Arduino), and/or willingness to learn.

Responsibilities

  • Support and provide technical assistance for audio, video, sound, and editing software in the Digital Lab, including evening support for students.
  • Provide training for students and faculty in Adobe Creative Suite and develop instructional workshops for digital tools and equipment.
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff on digital components of courses and proposals for new equipment.
  • Assist students in problem-solving project ideas from concept to realization.
  • Work on special projects with Studio Art and Film & Media, providing video/sonic support for academic and extracurricular activities.
  • Teach safe handling of equipment and maintain cleanliness and safety in the lab.
  • Assist with tracking, inventory, and maintenance of digital equipment and software upgrades.
  • Create and maintain a digital archive/library of student projects.
