The Chattanooga Times Free Press is seeking a digital producer and journalist to join a dynamic team of six responsible for managing the newspaper's digital content across various platforms. This role is crucial in ensuring that our vital journalism is not only available but also engaging for our online audiences. The digital producer will be involved in a range of activities including social media and website management, producing digital content, writing and adjusting headlines to be SEO-friendly, and enhancing stories with multimedia elements. Additionally, the role includes handling breaking news, which requires quick thinking and adaptability in a fast-paced environment. As a digital producer, you will be responsible for posting stories and general coverage from our reporters on the website daily, with a focus on timeliness and competitiveness. Your efforts will aim to increase page views, engagement, and the amount of time readers spend on timesfreepress.com. You will also produce and/or post interactive features, maps, graphics, photo galleries, listicles, and videos to enrich the digital experience for our audience. An engaging social media voice is essential, as you will be tasked with publishing the newspaper's stories across various social media platforms in a timely and lively manner. Engaging with readers online is a key part of this role, and you will work closely with editors and reporters across all sections of the newsroom to coordinate digital coverage. This includes formulating ideas for digital-only content and turning breaking news stories around on tight deadlines. As the last line of defense, you will ensure that all content is accurate and grammatically sound before it is posted on our website and social media channels. Strong news judgment is a must, along with a willingness to learn and adapt in an ever-changing digital landscape. Multimedia skills are a plus, and the ideal candidate will be able to work a Monday-Friday 12 - 8 p.m. shift, with on-site work required on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and remote work on Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays.
