About The Position

The Records Description Unit of the Government Records Section seeks a Digital Government Records Description Archivist to serve as a specialist in arranging and describing born-digital content. The position is responsible for providing a wide range of archival services such as appraising records for archival value, performing preservation actions on born-digital records, processing records of all formats (including analog and audiovisual records), increasing access by producing descriptive metadata, providing timely and accurate reference services for processed and unprocessed collections, and researching and applying confidentiality statutes to restricted materials. The archivist collaborates with other description archivists to incorporate digital records processing into their workflows and works directly with the Digital Services Section to ensure the seamless transition of born-digital and digitized records from creating agencies to the digital repository. Occasional Saturday work in the Archives' Public Services Unit (Search Room) required.
