About The Position

As a Product Engineering Designer – digital fabrication - you will have the opportunity to translate concepts into reality in the form of functional high-fidelity prototypes. Leveraging your expertise in automotive design and/or engineering, you will have the opportunity to see the future of Ford firsthand and play a pivotal role in the early-stage development of the next generation of Ford vehicle content and experiences. This role requires a deep understanding of automotive systems and subsystems, ability to think creatively and develop CAD solutions that are feasible relative to prototype manufacturing processes.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Fluent in various CAD software such as Catia, Rhino, Alias, Fusion360, etc.
  • 3+ years of experience leveraging CAD software to design high fidelity prototypes aligned to prototype manufacturing techniques such as additive manufacturing (3D Printing), milling, fiberglass layups, clay modeling, cut-and-weld, etc.
  • 3+ years of experience with design / PLM software such as Teamcenter/3DX
  • 3+ years of experience working collaboratively with design and engineering
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and rapidly changing environment
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think creatively.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in design, engineering or equivalent
  • 3+ years of experience working in automotive engineering and/or design with a strong understanding of vehicle level systems and subsystems
  • Experience with machine learning, artificial intelligence, or other advanced technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Develop 3D CAD models of: Show / Concept / Pre-Production vehicle chassis Interior and exterior model armatures and weldments Prototype mechanisms, vehicle structures and substructures including Seats Closures Instrument panel / console Etc.
  • Provide input and support development of prototype build timing plans – delivering data on time and with quality to support prototype build milestones
  • Work cross functionally with purchasing, program management and outsourcing to identify surrogate, “off-the-shelf” or completive parts to utilize in prototype builds
  • Work collaboratively with design, engineering and fabrication to design, engineer and build prototypes, aligned to design intent and program maturity
  • Leverage background in automotive systems and subsystems to identify and document design and engineering feasibility concerns and support the identification of robust solutions
  • Identify areas of opportunity and process efficiencies and action as appropriate
  • Stay updated with the latest industry trends and technologies to continuously improve prototype build processes
