About The Position

The primary purpose of this position is to ensure the long-term management and preservation of the Museum's digital collection, including: advising on the development of policies; creating procedures and documentation that supports a robust digital collection and remaining up to date on the relevant and ever-changing tools, theories, and practices required to meet that purpose. This position is in the Digital Access Division (DAD). The Division Director leads the staff responsible for digital intake, digitization and digital conversion projects, and digital preservation related to the Museum's historical Collection of Record.

Requirements

  • At least two years of experience working with digital cultural heritage materials.
  • Basic knowledge of established techniques and requirements of digital collections management and preservation practices.
  • Experience working with systems for digital asset management, collections management, cataloging, or similar.
  • Basic experience working with tools like Adobe Premiere Pro, FFMPEG, Audacity, MediaInfo, IrfanView, and OpenRefine.

Nice To Haves

  • Degree in library science, museum studies, information science or similar.
  • Experience developing technical and procedural documentation.
  • Knowledge of various metadata schemas like PBCore, EAD, METS, MODS.
  • Experience working in a team-based environment.
  • Basic familiarity with 20th-century history and sensitivity towards the Holocaust and its legacy.

Responsibilities

  • Uses a variety of tools such as command-line scripts, file inventory utilities, and validation for the management and preservation of the Museum's digital collection.
  • Tracks, identifies, and ensures quality control and correctness of computer files.
  • Identifies and implements modifications to existing systems and workflows in collaboration with other Museum staff.
  • Identifies and addresses issues such as incorrect format, wrapper, codec, transfer, and transcoding issues for a wide range of file types including image, video, audio, etc.
  • Troubleshoots and corrects issues with digital files to ensure long term access and preservation.
  • Serves on cross-office teams, projects, and initiatives to advance the Rubenstein Institute's priorities and goals, as needed.
  • Coordinates and communicates with colleagues and key stakeholders to share resources and integrate efforts across the Rubenstein Institute.
  • Other duties as assigned.
