Requirements

  • Strong news judgment and the ability to make quick, high-stakes editorial decisions in a fast-paced newsroom.
  • Proven leadership experience—able to coach, motivate, and hold a team accountable while building a strong culture.
  • Excellent editing and writing skills, including headline writing and clean copy under deadline.
  • Deep understanding of digital publishing across web/app and a strong interest in streaming and CTV growth.

Responsibilities

  • Lead WLBT's daily digital news operation across web, app, CTV, and streaming—ensuring fast, accurate, well-packaged coverage from breaking news through enterprise stories.
  • Supervise and coach digital staff members, including daily planning, editing, training, feedback, and performance accountability.
  • Use analytics and audience insights to refine coverage, increase engagement, and identify growth opportunities across platforms.
  • Collaborate with other newsroom leaders on long-range planning, special coverage, and station initiatives.
  • Build and maintain workflows for breaking news, severe weather, and major events—creating clear roles, checklists, and communication plans.
  • Direct digital coverage and distribution for all newsroom employees by setting priorities, coordinating assignments, and elevating digital-first thinking across teams.
