About The Position

The Digital Content Editor leads the execution of the alumni magazine’s digital content strategy across web, email, and social media platforms. This role transforms print stories into dynamic digital experiences while creating original, platform-specific content that engages alumni, students, faculty, and donors. The ideal candidate is a strategic storyteller, strong editor, and digitally fluent content producer who understands how to grow audiences and deepen engagement across channels. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, marketing, or related field.
  • 3–5 years of experience in digital publishing, content strategy, or editorial roles.
  • Strong writing and editing skills with a portfolio of digital work.
  • Experience managing websites through a CMS.
  • Familiarity with social media management tools and analytics platforms.
  • Knowledge of SEO best practices and digital content optimization.
  • Superior communications, writing, editing, presentation, and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of new communications technologies and changing media landscape.
  • Creative thinker and team player, possessing integrity, discretion, excellent judgment and high-level leadership skills.
  • Expertise with regional and national media outlets.
  • Strong collaboration and consensus-building skills.

Responsibilities

  • Digital Strategy Execution: Executes Wake Forest Magazine’s digital content strategy in alignment with strategic advancement storytelling goals. Develops and maintains a digital editorial calendar for the magazine website and social media platforms. Works with editorial team to conceive of magazine stories and features with compelling digital components (web articles, email features, social posts, video snippets, etc.). Identifies opportunities for timely, digital-first storytelling that complements print cycles. Works with Senior Managing Editor and editorial team to develop a robust online presence for the magazine to include RSS feeds and a social media connection to more directly reach different audiences. This includes Facebook and Instagram, which can promote the magazine’s print features and delivers important news or opportunities in between quarterly print magazines. Develops digital-only features and initiatives that boost online engagement.
  • Website Management: Manages and updates the alumni magazine website, ensuring fresh, relevant, and optimized content. Works alongside editorial team to edit, write, and publish articles for both print and digital placement. Coordinates with other Wake Forest strategic communications offices to boost University initiatives. Casts digital content to audiences using the university’s content management system (CMS), Salesforce Marketing Cloud. Applies SEO best practices to improve discoverability and search performance. Monitors site analytics and recommend improvements to increase traffic, time-on-page, and engagement.
  • Social Media and Audience Engagement: Creates and manages social media content that extends magazine stories and builds community in harmony with the Wake Forest Magazine social media strategy. Writes platform-specific copy for channels such as Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, and X. Monitors comments and messages, fostering positive engagement and alumni interaction. Collaborates with university communications teams to amplify stories across institutional channels and social media.
  • Editorial and Creative Collaboration: Works closely with writers, designers, photographers, and videographers to produce multimedia content. Ensures consistent voice, tone, and brand alignment across all digital touchpoints. Edits submissions for clarity, accuracy, and alignment with editorial standards. Maintains high journalistic standards and fact-checking processes.
  • Performance and Optimization: Tracks and analyzes digital performance metrics (website traffic, engagement rates, email open rates, social growth). Uses data insights to refine content strategy and improve outcomes. Prepares periodic performance reports for leadership.
